The Root Chakra

root chakra

An open and developed Root Chakra supports a stable and secure physical nature. A basic trust and openness is evident and there is a balanced sense of self-preservation that is inclusive of other life and all material form. The Root Chakra represents the element earth and supports health, prosperity, security, and dynamic presence.

Just as the crown Chakra is locate doutside the body, so the base Chakra is located about 7" below the gorin area, outside of the body.

When your Root Chakra is open and balanced:

You are centered, grounded, healthy, fully alive, with unlimited physical energy. You tend to manifest abundance. You are motivated to take good care of your body. People who have open root chakras love their lives - love their physical incarnation in their present bodies.

When your Root Chakra is open but unbalanced:

You tend to be egotistic, domineering, greedy, perhaps even a bit sadistic. Your sexual energy is entirely genital. You interpret situations with judgment and biased opinions.

When your Root Chakra is closed:

You lack confidence and because of that you can not achieve goals, you may be suicidal. In general you feel unlovable, have little interest in sex, and may be masochistic. Fear and insecurity are present realities. A blockage in this energy center of the body can result in a core sense of unworthiness and self-doubt and shame. Thought forms such as "I do not deserve love," "I am ashamed of who I am," and "I am always misunderstood," are common in people with a blocked Root Chakra. They try to compensate for these feelings by acquiring, keeping and controlling material possessions, by becoming addicted to material things.

Development of the Root Chakra:

Tantra practice and the study and practice of Reiki is prescriptive for general Chakra balancing and development. Specific development for the Root Chakra would include anything that supports trust in self and all of humanity. Developing a student role is very effective whether with a teacher, a shaman, a guru, or a life coach, mentor, or reality guide. Many support groups encourage a sponsorship type of relationship and these often grow into very healthy friendships.

There is a meditation that the Advaita Vedantists teach, the "I Am" meditation. Simply inhale and say the word "I" in your mind, then exhale while saying "Am" in your mind. Practicing this while walking, climbing a rope, swinging on a swing makes it even more effective. This places you in an appropriate perspective, there is no longer a sense of "I and Them" or "I vs. Them". You realize that you ARE them.
